Alec is one of the main ties that Magnus has to his past life in New York as well as a constant reminder of his previous life. The main difference, though, is that he remembers marrying Alec when, in fact, the memories they share of weddings are of other people—for Magnus, he remembers the time Alec almost married Lydia; for Alec, the wedding of Jocelyn and Luke. With this true memory twisted by the amnesia come false memories of exchanging rings and starting a life together.
Along with these memories, they share vague ones of traveling around the world together in what they assume to be their honeymoon which is actually a collection of other memories from their past. Their time in Wayward Pines, and truly false memories, began with driving across the country to see the sights, only to break down in the small town. They were welcomed by the citizens, enough that they decided to settle down and buy a house. With plans to open a record store, they were working on building their new life when their accident happened.
